Dear Parents,

A very warm welcome back to school to all our pupils. This year we have 12 new children in Junior Infants and 3 other children that are new to the school. A special word of welcome to the 7 new families joining us. Tá fáilte mór romhaibh go leir.

A few more points to note:

• Junior Infants:
• Junior Infants will continue to go home at 12 o’clock next week. From Monday 11^th September, they will stay until 2pm.

• Savings Club:
• Cyril the Squirrel Saving Club is in operation again. This optional savings club has proved very popular. €1 per saving stamp. Savings will be collected on a Wednesday and stamps will be given out on Fridays.

• Read at Home/ Leigh sa Bhaile:
• We are continuing with the English and Irish schemes. This is a page a night, Monday- Thursday reading programmes. Parents are asked to read with their child, provide assistance where necessary and check their understanding by asking the questions at the end of each page. Then please sign the reading log inside the front cover.

• School Attendance:
• For our and your convenience, please use the accompanying Pupil Absence Note when your child is returning after an absence from school. The School Attendance Policy explaining the parents’ and school’s responsibilities can be viewed on the school’s website kilbegns.ie.

• Healthy Eating:
• We are continuing to promote healthy eating habits in our school. Parents are reminded not to send in foods high in sugars, fat, salt, additives and preservatives – processed foods. We appreciate the co-operation of all parents. Water is the only drink permitted. The Healthy Eating Policy can be viewed on the school’s website kilbegns.ie.
• Nut Allergy:
• There are 2 children enrolled in our school with a severe allergic reaction to nuts. This allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) can occur through ingestion of nut products or cross contamination. We are asking your help in minimising the risk to these children by avoiding giving children nuts or anything labelled “may contain peanut traces” in school lunches.

• Wild Flower Garden:
• The wild flowers and willow shelter at the front of the school look magnificent. A very big thank you to the Kilbeg/Staholmog Pride of Place for all their hard work.
